OUR STORY
The Old Posthouse holds a special place in Ladismith’s heritage, dating back to the 1800s when it first opened as the town’s original post office. In 1954, it was sold and lovingly converted into a private residence named “Eerstepos” by the family who called it home. Then, in 2017, the building entered a new chapter as it was rezoned for commercial use and began operating as a coffee shop and deli—seamlessly blending its historical roots with a fresh identity.
Although the coffee shop was already up and running, there was a clear opportunity to reimagine it into something truly special—something that offered more than just a good cup of coffee. The vision was to craft a space rooted in nostalgia, where vintage charm meets heartfelt hospitality. It would be a place that feels familiar and comforting, like stepping back into a simpler time.

THE OLD POSTHOUSE
By carefully curating the décor and atmosphere, the goal was to create a warm, inviting environment where guests could slow down, savour thoughtfully brewed coffee, and connect—with each other, with the town’s heritage, and with the quiet joy of the present moment.
Our freshly baked chicken pies are a firm favourite! Guests also love the farm-style bread we bake ourselves—it’s served with our breakfasts and sandwiches. Everything on our menu, from cakes and buns to quiches and pies, is made fresh in our kitchen each day. We proudly serve locally roasted coffee from the Klein Karoo. We also showcase beautiful leather and canvas goods made by local artisans, as well as fresh flowers sourced from our own Hoeko Valley.
